In the fall of 2006, Heartland Actors’ Repertory Theatre (HART) was founded by professional actors, colleagues who had worked together onstage throughout Indianapolis and the Midwest and saw growing audience demand for high quality theatre. Encouraged by this public interest and spurred by the desire to earn a living as professional artists in our home city of Indianapolis while offering professional opportunities to fellow theatre artists, we pooled our personal resources and created Heartland Actors.
As a fully professional theatre company, Heartland Actors’ attracts top talent working in central Indiana and in theatres all across the country, and employs actors who are members of Actors’ Equity Association, the union for professional actors and stage managers.
HART has produced works that span the breadth of dramatic literature from new works and premieres to free Shakespeare in the park.
In 2016, HART underwent an intensive Strategic Planning process, and implementation has already begun. To implement our strategic plan, we have launched a new brand, Indianapolis Shakespeare Company. This name change coordinates with our goals of diversification of funding sources and potential expansion to additional performances by 2018.
